Decentralized computing infrastructure provider Gaia has launched Gaia AI phone, which features on-device AI while serving as a full node in the company’s P2P AI network.
This project is ideal for users who want to use AI without relying on cloud-based platforms that maintain control over their data. It also addresses growing concerns about AI centralization and AI sovereignty.
Built on the latest Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone, the Gaia AI phone will process its tasks completely through the device.
At the same time, every individual phone will contribute computing power to the Gaia network. In return, users will earn token rewards for supporting other users’ AI tasks.
It’s available for pre-order here.
Giving You More Control Over Your Data
Unlike the cloud-based AI of Google, OpenAI, and other tech firms, Gaia’s is on the device itself. This decentralized approach will gives users more control over their data.
Every major tech company is putting AI on phones the same way—your data goes to their cloud and they control the experience. We’ve proven that sophisticated AI can run entirely on your device while transforming users into infrastructure owners.
—Matt Wright, Gaia CEO
Since the AI is on-device and each user contributes to others’ AI tasks, this decentralized model allows Gaia to do away with the data monetization approach used by top centralized AI services.

Gaia is also an alternative to current AI systems that extract value from user data. With its model, it can spread the processing power required to run queries across all users on the node, achieving decentralization.
If you’re a Gaia AI phone user, you benefit from sharing this processing power through token rewards, which is a huge incentive for supporting the system. It’s a mutually beneficial approach atypical of AI systems available today.
Gaia’s AI phone comes at a time when the number of AI users is growing exponentially. ChatGPT, for example, is set to reach 700M weekly users, up 4x compared to 2024.
While Google Gemini is playing catch-up to OpenAI, it already had 450M monthly active users as of July. As this is baked into the Android OS, which has about 3.3B users, it won’t be long before Gemini becomes a part of over 71% of the global mobile OS market.
You can preorder it here.
Built to Run on a Smartphone
To make its AI run efficiently on consumer hardware, Gaia said that it involved compressing enterprise-grade language models that previously required data center infrastructure.

According to Gaia COO Shashank Sripada, their phone shows decentralized AI can go toe-to-toe with centralized systems when it comes to performance, while giving its users incentives for participating.
People will have a first look at what the AI is capable of on Gaia’s live demonstration of its AI inference and network operations at the Korea Blockchain Week later this month.
Powerful Features Out of the Box
Aside from its AI capabilities, the Gaia AI phone will come with several ecosystem integrations, including EdenLayer’s AI gaming platform, Roam’s global eSIM data package, and Umy’s crypto-native travel booking discounts. Plus, more Web3 and gaming collaborations will be announced later this year.
If you’re an early adopter, you’ll be able to help refine the ecosystem experience and optimize network participation features. In return, you’ll receive token airdrops from partner projects.
For now, Gaia will release an initial batch of 1,000 units for early adopters in Korea and Hong Kong. The Gaia AIA phone is priced at $1,399 and can be pre-ordered at mobile.gaianet.ai. Deliveries are expected by late 2025.
More to Come Soon
As decentralized AI becomes a critical alternative to its centralized counterparts, the Gaia AI phone is only the first salvo in the major announcements the company has planned for the second half of the year.
Over time, the company aims to move closer to its goal to be at the forefront of the decentralized AI movement and show users that they can have total control over their AI experience.
