Ripple Labs Joins the NACHA Payment Innovation Alliance

Ripple Labs Joins the NACHA Payment Innovation Alliance

Ripple Labs has joined the NACHA Payments Innovation Alliance, according to a new post on the Ripple blog.

NACHA oversees the administration of the ACH network and acts as an industry trade organization representing over 11,000 financial institutions.

The association with the organization is nothing to breeze over. Nearly 22 billion ACH transactions took place in 2013 valued at 38.7 trillion dollars.

The move reiterates Ripples focus toward banking. Banks may be quicker to adopt Ripple than Bitcoin because Ripple gateways can be configured to have AML and KYC policies in place. Also, Ripple transactions take place in seconds, and don’t have chargebacks as compared to typical ACH payments, which can take days.

Since NACHA works in part as an industry trade organization they service education, industry engagement and communications and advocacy. This is key for Ripple’s adoption.

NACHA is sticking to their mission of “sustaining a strong Network that continues evolving to meet end user needs” by promoting the adoption of digital payment protocols through Ripple’s association with the Alliance.

This move will also help Ripple because the group promotes “collaboration with other industry trade groups and policymakers allows us to create Network advocacy messages and resources for use by all.”

The announcement makes it ever clearer that these digital payment protocols will play an important role in FinTech over the next decades and will transform the traditional banking system by speeding up transactions and lowering costs.
