Dominica Drops The Bit Drop | NewsBTC

Dominica Dumps Digital; Drops The Bit Drop from its Schedule

It would appear that Dominica and bitcoin would have made a very cute couple, but apparently the pair is calling it off before even giving things a try.

The Bit Drop, an event to distribute bitcoin to approximately 70,000 residents in the small island nation of Dominica, has been tossed out the window.

The Bit Drop has been heavily advertised since August of last year.  Furthermore, the Caribbean has thus far had a mixed reaction when it comes to bitcoin integration.  Strong opposition has come from nations such as St. Kitts and Nevis, for example, which has sworn heavily against bitcoin usage and investment.

The event was to set to take place on March 14th through a massive, countrywide party that would have featured educational booths, prize giveaways and even fire dancing and music.  If you ask me, it sounds like it would have been a lot of fun.  If anything it sounds like a great way for bitcoin enthusiasts to get their “freak on,” so why the sudden cancellation?

Apparently, “country-logistic logistical decisions” are to blame, according to The Bit Drop Organizing Committee.  Those in charge of the event are currently looking at other ways and methods to try and bring bitcoin fun to the country (as the event took well over a year of planning), but it may be a while before everything falls into place.

A spokesman for The Bit Drop states:

“We are still passionate about bringing Let the Bit Drop to fruition and hope that we will be able to re-instate this pioneering project in the future.”
