Can you believe Bitcoin technically turns five-years-old today? Five years ago, on Saturday, November 1st, 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto sent out the famed email message explaining the very premise of Bitcoin.
“A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without the burdens of going through a financial institution,” Nakamoto explains. You can read the full email here.
This is not to be confused with the actual release of Bitcoin, which was several months later in January 2009. An important milestone, indeed. Where do you reckon we’ll be in another 5 years?
